SEX and the city-

SEX and the city-
If an Indian version of he sitcom was to be shot, it would have been ideally located  in khajuraho. It has the largest group of medieval Hindu  and jain temples, famous for their erotic sculpture. But that’s not all to the village. The name khajuraho is derived from the Hindu word khajur meaning date palm.
The city was once the original capital of the chandel Rajputs. A Hindu dynasty  that ruled this part of Indian from the 10th to the 12th centuries. The khajuraho temples were built over a span of a hundred years from 950to 1050. The chandela capital was moved to mahoba after this time but this village. In Madhya Pradesh continued to flourish for some time.
The whole area was enclosed by a wall with eight gates. Each flanked by two golden palm trees. There were originally over 80 Hindu temples, of which only 22 now stand in a reasonable state of preservation, scattered over area of about 21 kms. This village is think with history. Khajuraho, a unesco world heritage site was built between 950 AD And 1050 AD.
The sexquisitely sculpted temples are grouped into three division- the western, eastern and southern. These temples were built to celebrate the wedding of shiva and parvati.
At the temples you see religious sentiments coinciding with artistic genius and human desires. A tourist guides 21st century Indian touch will just complete your visit to the temples. The moods depicted in the sculptures are intringuing. Leaving a lot to one’s imagination.
From my hotel room, I could see the kandariya mahadeva temple of the westerm group . the sandhya arti(evening prayers)and uoga at the pool lawns transported me to a divine world away from the hustle bustle of daily life. It was exhilarating experience.
There is an arrangement of an evening show called lightning show conducted in the centeral region ‘lightning show’ conducted in the serene central region from where one can comfortably view all the temples. Flashes of bright colored light are thrown  on these temple and a mellifluous magical voice narrates the entire series of events responsible for the rules of those time and their epical sagas associated with them.
On a windy evening in a waxing moon sky. The experience is so magical that it only needs to be personally felt so as to effectively visualize the glory of a past famous for mystic love and exuberance of divinity.
Khajuraho, the city of dates may boast of some special cuisine but trying some fresh dates for sure is an option.
The city beams with some more colours. A- 45-minute drive to the ‘Raneh Falls’ on narrow rodas dotted by date plams is an experience in itself. While the waterfall is quites is sight during- monsoons, the visit is worth during other months too. Multi-colored rock (remnants of volcanic eruptions)are any photographers delight.
